When the answer was “yes!”, how did you imagine your day?
We both imagined a day with closest friends and family. A tiny, intimate yet beautiful wedding. We absolutely wanted to make this day, our day. Since we really wanted to travel to Portugal, we decided to have a destination wedding.
Did you feel prepared or was it a nerve-racking path?
The organization from Canada was somewhat a complicated path at moments, especially at the beginning because it was difficult to find local contacts, venue, addresses… We were close to simply cancel the wedding.
After months of looking at blogs, Pinterest and admiring Quinta de Sant’Ana weddings we finally decided to communicate with them and from there everything went smoothly. We trusted them with our day. Everything was organized within a few weeks.
We felt prepared thanks to all the staff from Quinta de Sant’Ana. They were simply wonderful from the start and made our special, perfect. After being in contact with the team, I then found the great make-up artist Joana Moreira and then Raquel and Daniel from Menino Conhece Menina. Everyone helped us to finalize our wedding day without stress and a lot of professionalism. Everyone was simply lovely.
At what point in the marriage organization did you feel, “this is for real”?
When we started planning with the team of Quinta de Sant’Ana, our dream to make our wedding on Portugal became real. The arrival at the Quinta was a moment we will never forget, it was picturesque.
Is the result true to the initial ideas or is it very different? Did you have any help?
It was more than we anticipated, it was a dream come true!
What was fundamental to you? And unimportant?
Vincent: For me, it was essential to have my best friends at the weeding. Valerie and myself are only-child, our friends are family.
Valérie: I simply wanted a beautiful and intimate wedding surrounded by loved ones. Sadly my mother was unable to travel to Portugal due to her health but the Quinta de Sant’Ana team and Nelson dos Santos made sure the internet connection worked throughout the day, so that my mother and other family members from Canada could be part of this day.
What was easier? And what was more difficult?
It was difficult to have everyone coming to Portugal. Our guests were traveling from several locations in Canada and France, so it was a lot of coordination for us.
We arrived first in the Quinta with some family members, then everything became much easier!
What was the sentimental peak of your day?
Saying yes in the vineyard.
At the beautiful heartwarming speeches from family and friends filled with sentimental moments.
The video our friends and family that Virginie, a good friend of ours, edited to surprise us during the reception.
And the peak of fun?
Our friend Mick mixing with DJ Bully was great!
Vincent: I had a nice time before I got dressed. We had a lunch in a small restaurant in Gradil, then we went to the swimming pool. It was relaxing.
Valérie: Well, the preparation was not as fun and stress free as the boys but still filled with beautiful moments. I had so many peaks of fun. From walking the aisle with my father and daughter, to seeing so many people we love sharing this day with us in Portugal, to the cocktails after the ceremony, to dancing the night away.
A special detail …
There are so many of them…
Now that it has happened, would you have changed anything?
We would change absolutely nothing! It was an amazing day and week for us and our guests. From the venue, the housing, the friendly team and wonderful Ann Frost to the delicious food that every guest still talks about, to the cake and midnight lunch, to the fun and friendly DJ Nelson. And let’s not forget the dog, chickens and doves that also participated in our special day.
Some words of advice for upcoming brides …
Remember to soak in the moment. This is your day but also the day of your significant other. Make it yours!
Surround yourself with love and people that will remind you to eat and laugh. Really look around at everyone and think how much they mean to you and tell them. Whether it’s a personalized letter or simply a hug. Feel every moment and eat!
